..and we're back! (with a link roundup)

Hello, hello! Due to the fall holidays, posting has been light for the past few weeks at Jewesses with Attitude. This week we're back with a link roundup of things we missed during this crazy-busy holiday season.

  • To mark the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty's dedication, Nextbook Press has created an interactive version of Emma Lazarus' “The New Colossus,” with annotations by biographer Esther Schor.

  • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Interfaith Domestic Violence Coalition, convened by Jewish Women International, called on Congress to reauthorize of the Violence Against Women Act, a critical piece of legislation provides much of the federal funding for domestic violence prevention and education. Learn more at JWI's blog.

  • Laura Cooper examines the gap between Jewish university education and halachic home economics for Orthodox Jewish women at TribeVibe.

  • October 19 was the 14th annual Love Your Body Day. Talia Bat Pessi blogged about it at Star of Davida, and Kyla Bender-Baird explored loving non-normative bodies at Girl w/ Pen.

  • Nina Badzin discusses Jewish superstition, babies, and baby naming at TC Jewfolk.

  • Sarah Seltzer explains how the "Protect Life" Act continues the war on women at the Sisterhood.

  • In a major victory, the Uniform Crime Report Subcommittee of the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) voted to expand its definition of rape to include statutory rape and male rape, among other things.

  • Writer/Comedian Gaby Dunn explains Sukkot to a non-Jew at TribeVibe.

  • Eddy Portnoy asks, "Was gender-bending an accepted part of life in the old country?" at the Forward.

  • Lilith Magazine interviews JWA Board member and former CEO of Planned Parenthood Gloria Feldt.

  • Are Justice Kagan and Justice Scalia hunting buddies? Renee Ghert-Zand has more at the Schmooze blog of the Forward.
