Born, raised, and educated in Toledo, Ohio, Erika Davis is an independent postpartum doula, childbirth educator, and yoga instructor working to confront racial disparities for Black people who give birth. She was also a birth doula until August 2021, when she decided to shift her focus to education, training, and postpartum care support. She lived for ten years in New York City, where she was employed as a retail manager before working for Jewish non-profits, including American Jewish World Service and Hazon. She served on the board of the Jewish Multiracial Network, helping to spearhead the first Jews of Color Convening in New York City in 2016. She also served on the board of Keshet, a grassroots organization working for LGBTQ inclusion and equality in Jewish life. She has written on the intersection of race, sexual identity, and religion on her blog, Black, Gay, and Jewish, and for various Jewish publications including The Forward, Kveller and My Jewish Learning. She also consults for a variety of Jewish organizations on the topic of diversity. In 2018, she was featured on NPR’s Next Generation Radio. She collects houseplants and lives with her wife, their dog, two cats, and six chickens on their urban farm in the Puget Sound region of Western Washington.
