Brenda Bacon

Brenda Bacon is the director of the M.A. program in Jewish education at the Schechter Insitute for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, where she teaches courses on  feminism and on curriculum in Jewish education. Her research focuses on learned Jewish women, as well as well as on attitudes to Jewish tradition as reflected in Israeli curricula. Among her publications are "How Shall We Tell the Story of the End of Beruriah?", which appeared in Nashim.

Rayna Batya Berlin was a Lithuanian woman committed to religious study who argued that women should be able to study the Torah and the Talmud. The only source of her life was written by her nephew, who describes her frustration with her subjugated status in her community and how she generally suffered in silence.
