Lois Barr

Lois Baer Barr is an emerita professor of Spanish at Lake Forest College. Her publications include Isaac Unbound:  Patriarchal Traditions in the Latin American Jewish Novel (ASU Press, 1995), a chapbook of poetry Biopoesis (Poetica, 2014), and a chapbook of short stories, Lope de Vega’s Daughter (Red Bird Press, 2019).  She was co-executive producer and chief researcher for the documentary film, Isa: The People’s Diva (2001), available from Facets Multimedia.

Fiction writer Alicia Steimberg (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1933-2012) garnered important literary prizes. Her work as a translator was awarded by the Konex Foundation and she served the government as Director of Books of the Secretariat of Culture.

Isa Kremer

Isa Kremer (Belz, Bessarabia, 1887-Córdoba, Argentina, 1956) traveled the world performing art, folk, and classical music. She studied and sang opera in Italy but appeared as an art singer in Odessa, where she was the wife of Israel Heifetz, the editor of The Odessa News. Her great legacy is her Isa Kremer Sings Jewish Life in Song, a book and album of Jewish songs.
