Joann Green was founder and artistic director of the Cambridge Ensemble, where she adapted and directed plays and chamber operas ranging from the Oresteia and Gulliver’s Travels to writings of Peter Handke and Shakespeare. Green has served on the artistic staffs of the American Repertory Theater, the Boston Shakespeare Company, and the American National Theater at the Kennedy Center and has directed and taught at theaters and universities around the country. She has directed several plays in American Sign Language and English, one of which was a selection of the first conference on Deaf Language, History, and Culture at Gallaudet University. Green is a recipient of the Boston Critics’ Circle Award for continued excellence in directing. She is the author of The Small Theatre Handbook and a contributor to Working It Out.
