Ruth Hottell

Ruth Hottell is professor of French at the University of Toledo. Having received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, she published numerous articles on French film, literature, and cultural studies. She has published two books with Janis L. Pallister, French-Speaking Women Filmmakers and Francophone Women Documentarians.

Holocaust survivor Simone Veil was a pioneer in the French government and the European Union. As Minister of Health, she presented and successfully argued the law decriminalizing abortion in France. She was the first woman to preside over the European Parliament and the fifth woman to be interred in the Panthéon.
