Rachel Keren

Rachel Keren is a senior lecturer of Midreshet Ein ha-Natziv and the director of educational development at the Midrasha. She has a B.A and M.A from Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Jewish philosophy and history and is a graduate of the School for Educational Leadership. She has served as a Jewish education adviser and created Jewish studies programs for Hebrew schools in Amsterdam. She is an active member of Kolech, the Forum of Religious Feminist Women in Israel.

Torah Study

Although the obligation of Torah study is one of the most important Jewish commandments, women have long been exempted, or even excluded, from it. Over time, scholars mitigated women’s exclusion by rendering it inapplicable to all content, to all women, or both. Regardless of halakhic rulings, some women have studied Torah in all time periods.
