Seymour Levitan

Seymour Levitan received his B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. His translations of Yiddish poems and stories are included in numerous anthologies, among them Ashes Out of Hope, The Best of Sholem Aleichem, The Penguin Book of Yiddish Verse, A Treasury of Yiddish Stories, The I. L. Peretz Reader, The Second First Art and Beautiful as the Moon, Radiant as the Stars. He has edited and translated a volume of Rukhl Fishman’s poems, I Want To Fall Like This. Paper Roses, his selection and translation of Rachel Korn’s poetry, was the 1988 winner of the Robert Payne Award of the Translation Center at Columbia University.

Rokhl Häring Korn is a major figure in modern Yiddish literature. She published eight volumes of poetry and two collections of fiction, much of which focused on themes of homelessness, the upheaval of war, and her experience during the Holocaust.
