Allen Smith

Allen Smith received his M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his Ph.D. from American University. He was awarded the 1993–1994 Charles DeBenedetti Prize for the outstanding journal article on peace history. His most recent article is “A New View of the 1960s Peace Movement: The Ramifications of the History of the New Jersey Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy,” Peace and Change (28:1) January 2003. He is currently the senior strategic researcher for the Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO.

Josephine Wertheim Pomerance

Josephine Wertheim Pomerance spearheaded efforts for nuclear arms control as founder and head of the Committee for World Development and World Disarmament (CWDWD). She co-founded the CWDWD in 1950, helped to finance the organization, and led its efforts to convince Americans to support global development and oppose nuclear weapons.
