Barbara Myerhoff partaking in a sacred water ritual in 1966 by peyoteros (peyote pilgrims) at Tatei Matinieri, near Wirikuta, in the mountains of central Mexico. Her book Peyote Hunt: the Sacred Journey of the Huichol Indians (Ithaca, N.Y.: Cornell University Press, 1974) goes into great detail about the ritual and her travels.
