Ada Schein

Ada Schein received her Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her doctoral thesis describes the educational system in the Jewish DP camps in Germany and Austria in 1945–1951. Among her publications is Homeless Displaced Persons as Partners in the Zionist Enterprise: Survivors in German Austrian Displaced Persons Camps and the Jewish National Fund. In 2004 she won a postdoctoral fellowship from the International Institute for Holocaust Research. Her present research focuses on oral testimonies in the DP Camps.

She'erit ha-Peletah: Women in DP Camps in Germany

Family played an important role in the lives of Holocaust survivors in DP (displaced persons) camps – in 1947, the birth rate in DP camps was one of the highest in the world. Women served as teachers and eager students, and they were active in the effort to open immigration to Palestine.
